A NEW PARADIGM
Davrosâs ghoulish enterprise was anything but philanthropic. Only corpses of limited intelligence and ability were converted into food. Those who had shown promise in life faced a waking nightmare in death. The Great Healer was cherrypicking from the Resting Ones to create a new breed of Daleks. Human heads were placed in glass Dalek incubators, where they would mutate into Dalek creatures. And this time, Davros had learned from past mistakes. Unlike his former creations, this new paradigm, clad in brilliant white and gold livery, would be conditioned to obey Davros, and Davros alone. With most of the funeral homeâs cryogenic chambers empty, Davros amassed a huge army of Daleks waiting for activation beneath the surface in the catacombs, ready to invade the very colonies he had been feeding as the Great Healer.
However, Davrosâs obsession with the Doctor would prove his undoing. Consumed with contempt for his former enemy, Davros initiated an elaborate ruse to lure the Doctor to Necros. Once the TARDIS arrived, Davros planned to convert the Doctor into a Dalek, a final indignity for the meddling Time Lord.
Unfortunately for Davros, it wasnât just the Daleks who wanted his head. Kara had become tired of her troublesome partner and hired Orcini, a disgraced Knight of the Grand Order of Oberon, to assassinate the Great Healer.
Davros had also begun to lose support within Tranquil Repose. As his Daleks increased their stranglehold on the funeral home, Tranquil Reposeâs security chief contacted the Daleks on Skaro. He would give them Davros if they destroyed the Great Healerâs new generation of Daleks and restored Tranquil Repose to its former state.
It is never wise to make deals with Daleks. The Dalek Supreme dispatched a squadron to return Davros for trial on Skaro, but had no intention of destroying his new creations. Instead, the white and gold Daleks would be reconditioned and assimilated into the Dalek Empire where they would obey the will of the Dalek Supreme.
In a last attempt to save his own skin, Davros tried to use the Doctor as a bargaining chip, imploring the Daleks to arrest the Time Lord rather than him. Yet, the Doctor, currently in his sixth body, bore no resemblance to any of the incarnations the Daleks held in their databanks. He too was to be arrested and returned to Skaro for interrogation by the Dalek Supreme.
The Doctor was saved when Orcini sacrificed his life to blow up Tranquil Repose, the resulting explosion destroying Davrosâs army of hibernating Daleks. Davros himself was already en route to Skaro to face judgement in what would be one of only two trials the Daleks are ever known to have staged, the other being the sentencing and execution of the renegade Time Lord known as the Master.
